From initial sketches to multi-storey development, Westside’s new Creative Industries precinct is quickly taking shape.
It’s 6am. The sun’s first light streaks across the sky and the world is silent. Except for the sounds of dozens of construction workers, engineers, cranes and earth-moving equipment. They’re all working towards the common goal of developing Stage One of the new Creative Industries precinct.
Scheduled for completion by late August, the a state-of-the-art three storey facility will provide exceptional learning resources for the Music, Drama (including theatrette), Dance and Media Arts departments. As building progresses through several more stages, Visual arts facilities, resource centre and full-sized theatre will integrate seamlessly into the sprawling campus.
Built from the ground-up for collaborative learning, a hallmark of 21st century education, the Herron Coorey built, Phillips Smith Conwell designed facility will be the highest habitable building in Goodna.
Head of Secondary, Joshua Mansfield is enthusiastic in his review “We cannot wait for our new Creative Arts Precinct Stage 1 to be complete. It’s been a long time coming and it will be a fantastic facility for teaching, learning, performing, recording, editing and more.” When asked about the new subject, Dance, he reflects “with the introduction of Dance this year, and the ongoing development of our bands, Theatre Company, performing arts projects and more, it’s going to be a drawcard for prospective enrolments that’s for sure.”
The multimillion dollar design will feature green spaces, new car parks and significant opportunities for students.
Initial earthworks took place in November, and since January, building progress has been rapid. Just recently, more than 50 trucks of concrete were poured to create its most recent storey.
